No, we do not. The reason is to maintain consistent results across the platform.
CarbonCloud's calculations adhere to all the carbon footprint calculation requirements as outlined by the GHG Protocol. Additionally, CarbonCloud provides a segmentation of Forest Land and Agriculture (FLAG) emissions inventory, as requested by SBTi's FLAG guidance released in 2023. Other companies calculating carbon footprint emissions also comply with these standards. The question then arises, why don't we accept their footprints on our platform?
The answer lies in the issue of consistency. These standards have a broad approach, indicating that they can be interpreted and applied in various ways while still maintaining compliance. This broadness can potentially lead to inconsistency across the platform. While the calculations may be conducted correctly and in accordance with the standards, this alone may not suffice. The broadness of these standards is also why two different carbon footprints, each generated by a different company, can both be correct.
One of CarbonCloud's strengths lies in its ability to compare products calculated on the platform. If we were to allow other companies' carbon footprints, it would mean comparing products calculated using different methodologies, potentially leading to errors.
